The Substance of Morphomic Structure

The existence of ‘morphomic’ structures is accepted, but little attention has been paid to the kinds of formal variation involved. Data from Italo-, Ibero- and Daco-Romance show that anything from sub-morphemic phonological fragments of roots, to defectiveness, can participate. Such data favour the radically ‘abstractive’ approach to Word and Paradigm morphology of J. Blevins (Word and Paradigm Morphology, 2016).
